Tips For Staying Out of a Work Rut
Working from home amidst a global pandemic can provide some challenges; loneliness, stress, or leave you stuck in a work rut.
Every single day feels exactly the same. We wake up and walk from our bedroom to the couch, or dining room table in the same loungewear we’ve had on since the day before (ok, maybe two days). We sign-on and start churning away at the day on autopilot. Rinse and repeat. Every. Single. Day. Since we can’t go on vacation, it’s hard to find a safe place to recharge on the weekends.
We’re sharing our list of tips that have helped us dig ourselves out of the hole.
1 – A fresh view.
After 2 months of sitting at my dining room table and staring at the same 3 walls, we spent the weekend giving our walls a boost of color, and finally hang up some framed art that was collecting dust in the garage. Consider adding some plants or greenery into the corners of your “office”. My favorite change of scenery was setting up shop on my patio—and it was easy with this Wi-Fi extender from Best Buy.
2 – Switch up your routine.
Now that you’re working from home, you probably have a little more flexibility than ever—so why aren’t you taking advantage of it? Instead of watching TV on your lunch break, consider going for a walk or doing a workout video. Regularly test out changes to your routine to help make your days feel a little brighter.
3 – Go beyond your immediate team.
You talk to the same people at your company, Monday through Friday. You probably have even started to see them in your dreams... I did. That’s when I knew it was time to widen my circle with some networking. Since we are a small company, I decided to join some groups on LinkedIn that consisted of like-minded creatives and professionals.
4 – Get dressed!
PJ’s and Lululemon tights may be comfortable but try throwing on a dress or a blouse. Brush your hair, brush your teeth, throw a little lipstick on and take on the day! Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean we can’t look cute doing it. ;)
Use these tips to pull yourself out of your work rut and reignite some passion and excitement for your job. Trust me—you deserve that much. We would love to hear your tips for working from home in the comments below…
